At the TCC, it’s always been a priority to facilitate opportunities
for the community within creative industries. By hosting workshops delivered by trans+ individuals and allies, we are able to provide a safe and comfortable environment for learning whilst equipping the community with practical creative skills. These workshops are delivered by industry professionals in commercial creative environments that community members may be entering for the first time.
Our first workshop, held at Urchin Studios with support from Ableton, focused on live playback and programming. The workshop was chaired by Tom Cane (Music Director for Gorgon City, George Fitzgerald, DJ Seinfeld) and Chrisy Lopez (drummer, programmer & MD), giving the attendees a chance to interact with industry professionals at an educational level. Having previously been oversubscribed at our collective launch months previous, tickets sold out for this workshop in less than a day.
FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS of our first workshop, we have continued to deliver in-demand teaching across music and film, including workshops delivered at Strongroom Studios, Ten87 Studios, FocusCanning, as well as online for our community members that may not be able to access the in-person workshops. We have been delivering these workshops since 2020 with huge demand, driving us to keep supporting the community in whatever way we can.
Our workshops prioritise trans+ and POC attendees, though we always work with the same ethos of inclusive, not exclusive, which is why we also aim to keep attendance free or at low cost. We hope to continue delivering these workshops to the community, and are invested in and equipped to explore a wide range of topics such as picture playback, video production, live photography, music to film, creative production, engineering and more.

Maxie Cheer (Live Playback workshop attendee):
“As a professional drummer who has worked mainly with Logic Pro for live shows, I found this workshop incredibly valuable. I wasn’t aware of how Ableton differed from and in fact superseded logic for live playback options and have since moved all my live work across on to the platform. Ableton has sped up my work flow, reignited my tech creativity and is impressing all the clients I work with. So grateful to the TCC and Ableton for the opportunity I’ve had to learn and grow my practice.”
Anna (Camera Trainee workshop attendee):
“I think time spent on each area was perfect and it felt like we covered a lot but also nothing was rushed…Honestly everything has been amazing so far…[I] would love to attend any future [workshops and events]…”
Minhee Jones (Live Playback workshop attendee):
“The backing tracks workshop the TCC put on was incredibly informative and really helped me with programming tracks for my own live show and also has me considering becoming a playback tech for others. Everyone was incredibly welcoming - great vibes! I am new to Ableton and was very grateful to learn about it in such an inclusive setting where I felt comfortable asking questions.”
